Quick Par Three Tips

Many golfers who take the course regularly fail often at taking advantage of Par 3 holes as a way to shave a few strokes off of one’s score. Par three holes are often designed to reward the golfer who wants to attack the pin rather than lay up into a “safer” area of the green.

To ensure your success on a par three, and increase your chance of making a birdie, the biggest tip to follow is “know thy clubs.” If you’re fairly good at knowing the distances you get from your clubs on a typical swing, you can be in better position to pull the right stick out of the bag and hit the ball close. Don’t be afraid to hit your golf ball long and put a bit of spin on the shot. Many holes in one are balls hit past the pin that roll back due to spin.

Additionally, make sure you take wind and elevation into account. Hitting downhill can often shorten the amount of club you need to hit the green and the pin, and the wind has a more adverse effect on a ball with higher flight. If you take these two into consideration and adjust your shot accordingly, you can have a better chance to hit a shot close and make a birdie on a par three.
