There are some bonsai that people purchase to add interesting flair to their outdoor bonsai tree collection. But then there are some that people purchase because they are classic, traditional bonsai. The Japanese Flowering Cherry is one of the latter. This great looking bonsai is very elegant, and no bonsai garden is truly complete without one. It features amazing white and pink flowers during the spring, and then it breaks out into small black fruits. This deciduous bonsai is also called the East Asian Cherry, the Oriental Cherry, and the Hill Cherry, among other things, but no matter what name, it’s one of the best bonsai around.

Remember that the Japanese Flowering Cherry, just like all bonsai, needs protection from the weather. While it is hardy enough to grow in cold temperatures, it is vulnerable to the elements. Snow and a lot of rain will need to be dealt with quickly, of course—don’t let water stand in your bonsai pot. Also watch for excessive heat and sunlight. Bonsai do not do well in direct sunlight, so you may need to put up a shade or arrange your bonsai so that they are near a shade tree or wall part of the day.

Back yard birdbaths are found in an extraordinary selection of creative materials & designs. The original sculpted birdbaths have evolved into ceramics, brass, copper and fiberglass including pedestals can be anything from stone, iron, copper or brass. You can also hang a birdbath. But one of nicest I’ve come across in quite a while is this lovely antique Brass Aspen Leaf Design Bird bath. It’s excellent to have one that looks great and you can move it anywhere you want. Just try doing that with concrete.

It’s likely that the first birdbaths originated a long time ago, somewhere around Athens. I guess we’ve been interested in appealing to birds for a long time and even the coolest yard can be improved with a carefully located bird bath or feeder. I’ll bet you’ve seen lots of gardens that we planned, right from the start to feature a bird bath in a prominent spot. Birds are big business in North America.

And its no surprise that the bird business is booming! Look at all the wonderful things that a flock of birds can add to your yard. They sing. They’re great to watch and they’ll help you with your natural pest control objectives for the yard.
