It never fails, just as I’m preparing for a large holiday gathering, I realize I don’t have the right serving dishes. It’s simply one of those things I tend to forget until I have to entertain. Then I take a look in my cabinets and find I don’t have the amount of bowls I need for the different side dishes I was planning to make. Then the holiday passes and I put it out of my mind. That’s what happened this last Easter again. However, this time I made note that I needed to get a nice ceramic serving bowl set and that is just what I did.

These deep serving bowls from Reco are just what I needed. They’re perfect for serving mashed potatoes, vegetables, or any number of hot side dishes as well as for putting out snacks and chips. When the package arrived I found that they are even more attractive in person, very classic styling and solid quality. The bowls even feature a handy side loop handle which I thought was a great idea. I can’t tell you how nice it is to finally have some colorful serving bowls to serve my food in.

For a long time I’ve been meaning to get a programmable coffeemaker. I would love to get up in the morning and have my hot coffee waiting for me. One of the reasons I hadn’t bought a new programmable coffeemaker yet is that my old coffeemaker was still working well and it seemed wasteful to replace it when it wasn’t even broken. Plus the coffeemaker I own is nice and compact and I didn’t want to end up with a large coffeemaker on my counter top since I am so tight for space. But recently my coffeemaker has been giving me signs that it is beginning to go, so I got busy looking for the perfect replacement and decided the Spacemaker 12-Cup Coffeemaker was the right machine for me.

This coffeemaker has exactly what I’m looking for – it’s a Spacemaker so I can mount it to my top cabinets and actually gain back some counter space – and it’s programmable, so I can set the timer and have hot coffee waiting for me when I wake up. This Black & Decker coffeemaker is just the machine I’ve been waiting for & I can’t wait to brew my 1st cup of coffee in it.

I love it when I find a crockpot version of one of our favorite dishes. That’s why I got excited when I came across this crockpot hamburger stroganoff recipe and couldn’t wait to give it a try. It was simple to make and a big hit at dinner time. It’s since been a regular on my meal plan. I’d say that on average I make it about twice a month. It’s just one of those good “stick to your bones” kind of meals. You don’t really need much of a side dish with this. I usually just cut up some fresh fruit to serve alongside the stroganoff (which is of course served over cooked noodles).

I’m always surprised to hear from friends that they don’t really use their crockpot at all. Almost everyone I know has one, but doesn’t take advantage of the hundred or even thousands of yummy crockpot recipes out there. It just makes cooking dinner every night so much easier for me when my beloved slowcooker does most of the work for me at least a few times each week.

Fall is the classic apple season and our local Farmer’s Market has been overflowing with fresh-picked apples from the local orchards. In our family, we eat apples all of the time. It’s not only because they’re so good for us, it’s that we truly enjoy eating them. Apples also make a wonderful dessert treat, whether made as a warm cinnamon cobbler or a homemade pie, served warm with a scoop of ice cream on top. Another terrific way to enjoy apples is to bake them, which you can do in large portions in a baking pan or individually in this great clay apple baker.

Using a covered clay baker for baking apples helps keep the natural fruit juices in your dessert. Once it’s fully baked, you can top it with cinnamon and nuts, or whipped cream, ice cream, honey – just about any topping you can imagine tastes delicious on top of a juicy warm baked apple. The dessert is really simple to make, but it creates quite an impression. And this adorable baker is just one of the many great cookware pieces offered by Romertopf clay. Not only is it fun to have in your own home, it also makes a very unique housewarming or Christmas gift.
