Are You Switching Internet Providers? Don’t Forget to Recycle Your Old Modem
If you’re in the process of switching internet providers, you will likely be getting new equipment. In some cases your old equipment will go back to your previous provider, but if you find yourself with modems or other devices you don’t need, resist the urge to throw them away. There are actually several ways you can dispose of them in a responsible manner. If you’re dealing with equipment that’s no longer able to be used, find your closest recycling center. Some electronics can have substances that are quite harmful to the earth as they break down.
On the other hand, if you have materials that can still be used, find out if there is somewhere in your area that will take them as donations. The necessary equipment for DSL, cable or satellite broadband can be quite expensive and there are often charities who can take it to donate to those who need it. In many cases you can also mark this is a charitable donation and get a tax deduction. If you plan to do so, make sure that you get a receipt from the charity and that they are a non-profit. This will make your taxes much easier and you’ll be sure that you’re giving to a worthy cause.
