Many golfers who take the course regularly fail often at taking advantage of Par 3 holes as a way to shave a few strokes off of one’s score. Par three holes are often designed to reward the golfer who wants to attack the pin rather than lay up into a “safer” area of the green.

To ensure your success on a par three, and increase your chance of making a birdie, the biggest tip to follow is “know thy clubs.” If you’re fairly good at knowing the distances you get from your clubs on a typical swing, you can be in better position to pull the right stick out of the bag and hit the ball close. Don’t be afraid to hit your golf ball long and put a bit of spin on the shot. Many holes in one are balls hit past the pin that roll back due to spin.

Additionally, make sure you take wind and elevation into account. Hitting downhill can often shorten the amount of club you need to hit the green and the pin, and the wind has a more adverse effect on a ball with higher flight. If you take these two into consideration and adjust your shot accordingly, you can have a better chance to hit a shot close and make a birdie on a par three.

Going into the Masters tournament who won’t be watching Tiger Woods?  Not only enourmous talent but he’s on a winning streak that’s amazing.  And ego?  No shortage of that either.

Woods caused a stir when he said in January that the calendar Grand Slam was “easily within reason.” Then he won his first four starts of the year, including a back-nine charge at Dubai on the European Tour. Along the way, he surpassed Arnold Palmer and caught Ben Hogan on the PGA Tour’s career victories list.

Tiger Woods shot a stunning 24-foot putt for a dramatic birdie on the final hole to claim his ninth win in 10 Golf tournaments at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Number one Woods went into the 18th hole with fellow American Bart Bryant on nine-under-par and looked ready for a play-off.

Bryant, ranked 137th before this event, had kept the pressure on Woods throughout with a consistent round of 67 but was left to watch a perfect putt for victory -This made it Woods’s seventh successive worldwide.

Woods celebrated with a punch of his fist and threw his hat to the ground before picking the ball out of the hole.

“It was just a great day. I hit the ball well all day,” said Woods who had struggled to find his form in the opening two rounds and who had been down in 20th place. “I was trying to get the speed right, trying not to leave myself a second putt and it went in,” said Woods of his winning stroke.

But the 32-year-old said he was more pleased with his drive to the green where, with the wind changing direction, he opted for a five iron and found the green and his chance of that tournament-winning birdie.

Woods ended the day with a four-under-par 66 for a total of 10-under 270.

Woods’s 64th PGA Tour victory means he draws level with Ben Hogan in the list of all-time rankings — only Sam Snead (82) and Jack Nicklaus (73) have won more.

It just goes to show that having Practice Aids helps out!

I was reading today that Colon Montgomerie has drawn inspiration from his mother’s fight with cancer.  Her deatch convinced him to create a new facility for lung cancer in the UK.  It will be named, aptly, The Elizabeth Montgomerie Centre.  Based in Glasgow, the centre will cater for sufferers, carers and health professionals from across the UK.

Colin, who won the Golf World Cup in China at the weekend, said the project and charity work was close to his heart.

Good work Colin - and thanks from the rest of us.
